Software development was something that I honestly had never considered. She convinced me that I should look into coding bootcamps. Eventually, I was catching up with a good friend that had just graduated from the Turing School (a coding bootcamp in Denver) and explaining to her my career change struggles. I considered consulting, business school, and maybe an masters in engineering, but none of those options seemed exciting to me. When first considering a career change, I wasn’t sure what options were out there, so I spoke with different people about their careers. I sought that same challenge in a career, and it was something that I couldn’t find as a medical device rep. Rather, I missed the feeling that problem sets would give me - there was nothing better than the adrenaline rush of success after the frustration of many failed attempts. I never thought I would say this, but I missed doing problem sets. I have a background in biomedical engineering, and while my former job allowed me to work directly with medical devices, it didn’t feel like engineering. When applying to bootcamps, I found blog posts of other bootcamp applicants to be the most helpful resource, so I thought I would add my story to the mix.īefore coming to Flatiron, I had spent 4 years working as a medical device rep in Boston. I started at the Flatiron School this past week, and I want to share my decision to attend, as well as my experience with the admissions process.
